I had a 20 minute skype interview. Most recruiters are very nice to software engineers, but the RHT recruiter was very brisk and a bit condescending. She was not exactly rude, but she more or less had the attitude of an HR person processing a low level clerical worker's job application. I'm a software engineer with a few decades of experience and have worked for major financial institutions on Wall street. I usually get hired within a few weeks of any job search and often receive multiple offers. I am treated like a VIP by almost all recruiters.
When she asked what my rate was and I told her, she said it was on the high side (it wasn't) and said she had no jobs at that rate. When I told her that she should contact me when she gets jobs at that rate, it seemed to throw her a bit. She asked me how my job search was going, and when I responded that was going well and told her what interviews I had lined up for later that day and the next day, she seemed to be, again, a little flustered.
After we hung up, she called me back 5 minutes later, leaving a message on my phone that she had managed to find jobs that paid my rate. I never called her back, and got hired by another company a week later.
