I applied in-person. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at River Island (London, England) in Sep 2017
Interview
I applied in person. Two days later after handing in my CV, I receive a call asking me to attend an interview for the following week. Before the interview, I was asked to wait near the shoes as I was early. The manager then guided us to the staffroom where we sat around a table. We were asked to introduce ourselves one by one (name, age, university, what we're studying). The manager explained the interview process. We gave our details such as name, phone number and availability. Then the interview started. Two people interviewed us and they were really friendly. They would go around and ask one page of questions to each person. Then they would do the same thing with the second page of questions. They would write down whatever we were saying. The people asked later definitely had more of an advantage as they had the opportunity to listen to everyone's answers and improve their own answers. At the end of the interview, we were told we would be contacted in two days. I got a call the next day saying I was successful and to come in for induction the following day.
I applied online. I interviewed at River Island (Birmingham, England) in Mar 2026
Interview
Group interview of around 15. First task was saying your name a bit about you out loud, just general information it seems like name age what you do. Then the second task was writing down good customer service and bad customer service in your little group and reading it out to the group. During this, they are checking to see what you say, but try not to talk over anyone but definitely stand out. The second task was getting clothes from the shop floor presenting your outfit and explaining your choice. I don’t believe they cared too much about your previous experience but rather your personality.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
1. Introduce yourself
2. What’s is good/bad customer service
3. Go to the shop floor and pick out an outfit and present your choice
Fine, questions not always relevant but seems like a personality test I suppose. Nice enough interview in general. Quite quick interview, didn’t end up getting the job though , oh well
