I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Rise Technical Recruitment (Bristol, England) in Jul 2015
Interview
Initially contacted them through a jobs board and was contacted almost instantly for a short telephone interview with the usual "what's your story, why recruitment, why us" etc. This is the norm and something I have come to expect from a recruitment company looking for their next employee. After successfully getting through this, I was asked to go in for a face to face (F2F) interview with a team manager (TL) and a director (D). The interview went as follows:
- TL and D enter room and introduce themselves
- D explains the interview structure and that TL will further question me
- D provides information about the business
- D begins questioning session via grilling CV and experience, asking odd questions about my education (showing disapproval that I went to a comprehensive and not private school). Where I expected to see myself. What did I think the role consisted of. etc.
- D then further informs about the company and the industry as a whole
- Finally D ends the interview with TL not speaking a word
3 hours later I received a phone call saying "You just don't have the experience. However, if you find someone who is willing to train you for a year, then come back and we'll consider you"
Frustrating to hear this because they had my CV there in their hands and wasted my time and my money. Also, through criticising my experience and my educational background is highly unprofessional of yourselves.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Rise Technical Recruitment (Bristol, England) in May 2021
Interview
I interviewed with Rise approximately six months ago (April/May 2021). I had a short telephone call with my contact, followed by a longer telephone interview, at which point I was invited to a first-stage Zoom interview and advised of the process moving forward. All of the conversations I had were informal and I was provided with a digital information leaflet, which I read prior to interview. However, I received a rejection less than an hour after my interview, which made me feel very undervalued as a candidate. Although recruitment is admittedly cutthroat, it felt as though the company hadn't taken any time to consider my skillset. On top of this, I wasn't given any constructive feedback, I was just told 'there were lots of strong candidates'.
