I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at RTGS.global in Jul 2022
Interview
About an hour talking to a developer via teams. The interviewer wasn't knowledgeable on some of the tech stack they were interviewing for. And couldn't tell me what they wanted the new hire to achieve.
When I asked what success would look like, they said "we've had to let a couple of contractors go because they didn't get along with the team". OK, but that's what failure would look like, which isn't what I asked. I asked what success would look like. If you don't know, that's a pretty clear sign you're going to fail, no matter whom you hire.
After the interview, I was later sent a technical test in the form of a github project and some tweaks to make. I was asked to spend no more than 30 minutes on it. It was a really easy test. However, the company didn't bother getting back to me after I completed it. Which cemented my belief that technical tests, while not invalid in their own right, are often a sign of a company that is clueless about recruiting and/or an utter timewaster. So it proved to be here.
Looking at their accounts, this company has lost £2 million in the past two years. In the same time, I led the development of a solution that currently processes £100 million in payments annually. I can see why I was successful where they have failed. I've never interviewed anyone and not bothered getting back to them. If any of my peers ask me how this process went, what do you think I'm going to say?
Thank you for taking the time to write this review. All feedback is important; and of course, some of this has been a difficult read. We have shared your feedback with the relevant people within our business; and we have made changes to positively improve our recruitment processes.
