      Staff Site Reliability Engineer Interview

      Dec 11, 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Santa Barbara, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at Procore Technologies (Santa Barbara, CA) in Oct 2020

      Interview

Interviewed with 7 people over the course of 6+ weeks. I understand it was around Thanksgiving, but the pace of the interviews showed their disinterest upfront. No prioritization on hiring, no sense of urgency. Was told on my first interview that they were hiring multiple candidates, at various levels, and multiple at all levels. It was at that time I was encouraged to apply for the position I applied for. The only person I interviewed with that had a title / position above the one I was interviewing for was the Director. Okay, basically interviewing with my peers, understandable, but really, only 1 interview with any stakeholder or anyone responsible for the direction of the team? Over the course of all these interviews, a peer-coding interview as well as leadership, values and technical architecture interview, I did not receive anything but positive reviews from all parties. Multiple candidates expressed frustration with the technical direction of the company, The overall process was very technically agnostic. They didn't care about the technology stacks you had worked with in the past, which was nice, as they prioritized learning their stack as it applied to their business, however, that gave very little ability for any technical expertise or background to be highlighted, as everything was discussed in vague generalities, conceptual ideas and “if money were no object” scenarios. In the end, after interviewing with 7 people, including various calls with the recruiter, I received a blanket “we’ve chosen to go with another candidate” Honestly, at this point, I think I dodged a bullet.

      Question 1

Pick a vague technical concept. That was discussed.

I am very sorry to hear this was your experience, but appreciate your feedback. While we strive to be as transparent as possible about timing and next steps, what you have described is not the top-tier candidate experience we aim to deliver. We are always looking for new and better ways to make Procore a top company to interview and work with. If you would like to connect to discuss further, please email employerfeedback@procore.com with your contact information and I will be in touch. In the meantime, I am looking into this. - Steve Mair, VP Talent Acquisition
