I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Poetic Systems (Houston, TX) in Jun 2023
Interview
A very typical sweetshop design agency that wants quantity and speed over any type of system or quality work. The interview process was standard, starting with a quick intro call with a hiring manager (30mins). The next step was an interview with the design team where anyone could ask questions, no real structure to the interview, it was a simple meet and greet to pick each other brains (1 Hour). After that, they gave a landing page to mockup in Webflow as a take-home assessment. The assessment wasn't too difficult, the problems lie within how it was set up and it was a very unfinished design with a bunch of gaps in type, spacing, and colors that didn't match the style guide, on top of this they just ask that you finish the page, make it fully responsive with interactions and then let them know how much time you spent on it. They also mention multiple times in the brief how they highly encourage over-achievers.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Poetic Systems (Houston, TX) in Jan 2023
Interview
The interview process involved sending my resume to the recruiter, then getting a call to schedule an interview. Two employees were in person, and two joined via Zoom (including the CTO). During the interview, most of the questions were about my proficiency in Webflow, despite them stating this was a UX/UI design role. There were no soft skills related questions, and I was never asked anything personal. Following the interview, I was assigned an uncompensated take home assignment that involved developing a design in Webflow with a list of requirements (approximately 5-7 hours). They graded the assignment on requirements that were not mentioned, and then declined to move forward. I would urge any applicants to do their research on the company and read other reviews before applying to this company. Take the job description with a grain of salt and pay closer attention to the questions you're asked, as that will tell you what to expect.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Most of the questions for this position revolved around Webflow, Webflow CMS, Webflow eCommerce, inputting large amounts of data into Webflow, and my experience with using various plugins with Webflow. There were very few questions that were UX/UI design related.

Interview
4 rounds in total
- Resume scanning and a couple of behavioral questions
- Culture fit interviews with team leads and COO
- Assessment project
- Discuss the project implementation with the team
The interview was really straight-forward and professional. However, the whole process took too long, I had to wait 2 weeks between the last 2 rounds, and at the time, I already had another offer that I think a better fit for me.
