The process started out great. The recruiter reached out a couple weeks after I applied on their website. We had a quick intro call where she went over the company culture, role and what I was looking for. She said they were looking to fill the role quickly within the next few weeks.
I was then asked to submit an assignment before setting up a call with the hiring manager. I spent a lot of time on the assignment. The meeting with the hiring manager went well, however it didn't even really seem like she looked at the assignment I turned in. I was told I'd be put through to the next round. A couple days went by, I followed up with the recruiter and she let me know at the a few days later they wouldn't be moving forward.
I completely understand it not being the right fit. However, when the hiring manager explicitly says you will be moving on to the next round (after spending a lot of time on an assignment, as well), then being told they went in a different direction - leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth about the company and is a horrible candidate experience. Really disappointed as I had heard amazing things about Pluralsight prior to interviewing from many colleagues. I'd recommend Pluralsight focuses on better interviewing training to their hiring managers.
