      Scientist Interview

      Jul 6, 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Eindhoven
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Philips (Eindhoven) in Apr 2017

      Interview

Applied online. HR called me for a first screening (about 20', mainly explaining about the company and the activities of the specific department), after 2 weeks I had a 1-hour Skype interview with the Hiring Manager discussing my background thoroughly and why I chose Philips, and after a couple of days I had another interview via phone call with another recruiter from HR (about 50') and this concluded the first round of interviews. Only 4 candidates made it to the second round (me included) where each of us had a phone interview with experts from the Department discussing approximately for 1-hour technical questions, that was very thorough, many questions on e.g. software I have used in the past, specific numerical approximation used, details of modeling variables, limitations and approximations to check in depth the knowledge of mechanics. I did not continue in the final stage of face-to-face interviews but all steps that far needed a lot of preparation to handle ok. The communication with HR had been excellent since the beginning of the hiring process, always giving updates between the interviews and suggesting several dates for scheduling each interview (this does not happen in any company, usually you are invited for a specific date and time without asking for your availability!). All interviewers were friendly, especially the Hiring Manager.

      Interview questions [5]

      Question 1

-Describe one time when you were professionally judged hard or you felt uncomfortable and how you handled it? (HR)
      Answer question

      Question 2

-What kind of approximation you used to calculate the stresses through the code? Total Lagrange etc? (technical question, 2nd round interview)
      Answer question

      Question 3

-What did you change from Marc Mentat to Abaqus? (Hiring Manager)
      Answer question

      Question 4

-(discussing about my PhD thesis models) What are the limitations you would address first to make the model better: more realistic geometry or different materials and constitutive equations? (technical question, 2nd round interview)
      Answer question

      Question 5

-Salary expectations (asked from both Recruiters separately, they did not give a range of what they offer though)
      Answer question
