      Outside Sales Representative Interview

      Mar 24, 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Glendale Heights, IL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Painters USA (Glendale Heights, IL) in Dec 2024

      Interview

*HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE* I interviewed with Painters in December 2024. The process started out fine, a phone call with a tenured employee in more or less the same role they were hiring for. The next step was a half day ride along (taking time from my current role). I met the gentleman at the Glendale Heights HQ, toured the facility and went on the road to visit job sites and see if the role was a good fit for both parties. After being told I was the top candidate, I had a final interview with the hiring manager, who held the title of National Sales Manager. After concluding that it was a great fit for both parties, I was told that I would be receiving an offer letter the next day. The next morning I was informed that the company underwent a hiring freeze and although I was still the top candidate, they would not be filling the position until the start of their new fiscal year (March). I told them I understood and stood by. March rolls around and I get a call from the gentleman I had previously been interviewing with. I was again informed that they wanted to hire me and that they would be sending over an offer letter. I waited to receive the letter but never did. Upon following up a few days later, I was informed they went with another candidate. The National Sales Manager then proceeded to act like he was doing a favor by being willing to have a conversation as to why he went with another candidate. In my professional experience this was hands down the most unprofessional, inconsistent, and downright confusing interview process I have ever been a part of. I do believe they are a good company to work for. I can completely understand a company going with a candidate they feel is a better fit but I will never understand their extremely misleading communication and the unprofessionalism displayed during this process. Please note that I am very happy in my current role and was not banking on this job. I say that to show that the resentment isn't due to not receiving the offer, but the unprofessionalism shown, the disrespect of my time, and the entirely misleading information and communication throughout this process.
