Only went through the first stage of interview, and was disgusted by how disrespectful the interviewers were. There are two interviewers and both took turns to fire questions which vary from being general to personal and insulting.
The interviewer actually analyzes each and every module on my university transcript and question why my results for certain modules were "poor". Additionally, they also asked details of the learning points from the modules that you took in university (they actually pointed out several modules to ask you what these individual modules teach you exactly), and what practical implications you learnt from them.
Technical questions include:
1. I see that you have taken this module, what did you learn from it?
2. What does this particular module cover?
3. What practical implications do you think this module teaches you?
4. What aspects of this module do you think you will be able to apply here in the workplace?
The general questions include all of these case scenario questions:
1. Tell me a situation when you manage to cope with a very stressful situation. What did you do to overcome it?
2. Tell me a time when you had to face with a difficult person, did you manage the situation well?
3. Describe a time when you had to lead a team. Were the ending results successful?
4. If your boss were to ask you to do his or her work while you're pressed for deadlines, would you do it? How will you handle this situation?
5. Tell me a time when you had to deal with a conflict between your team members, and you had to resolve it. What was the outcome?
6. If a senior colleague writes an angry e-mail to you, but you are just a messenger for your boss, how will you reply the e-mail?
7. Have you ever encountered a situation when you had to cope with stress apart from academics wise?
8. Tell me about your internship experience.
9. Why HR?
Personal attack questions include:
1. I have noticed that your results for these two particular modules are rather poor as compared to the rest. Are there any reasons for these comparably poor results?
2. Do you think you'll be able to cope well with the stress levels in our organisation given that you are only a fresh graduate with no corporate life experience?
3. Why should we pay you $xxxx amount per month when you are a fresh graduate, and still learning the ropes, when you are paying your university to learn?
4. Did you write the cover letter on your own?
And it is rather appalling that they are unaware of what Actuarial Science is, and they even thought it was a science module (e.g. Chemistry, Biology and Physics). Perhaps this is the reason why I'm worth the stated amount? (which is the market rate; when in doubt, please refer to The Straits Times or Business Times).
*****Note to organisation:*****
The position I applied for is Human Resources Executive, which I was later told, that if I was hired, I would be the only HR working for the company. This means that I am to handle the entire spectrum of HR individually and independently, with no team nor any assistance from anyone else. If that is the case, I don't think my stated amount (which is the market rate) is unreasonable. In fact, given such overwhelming responsibilities, the pay offered should be a much higher amount.
Through this interview, I have a gut feeling that you have zero intention hiring anyone in this position from the start. It seems like the interviewers were just playing around and trying to break me mentally.
Really very shocked at how disgusting and disrespectful this organisation's culture is. I am bewildered as to how it even survives.
