I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Oceancare (Miri) in Apr 2025
Interview
I am very disappointed with my experience during the hiring process with this company. After going through the interview, I received a call from HR informing me that I was selected for the position with a basic salary of RM2,000. During the call, I verbally accepted the offer, but after reviewing the financial details and considering the cost of living (since I need to relocate), I followed up the next day with a polite email to ask whether there was any possibility of revising the salary slightly to RM2,200 or RM2,300 — not to demand, but simply to inquire.
To my surprise, the company responded by immediately revoking the offer without any further discussion or clarification. I found this reaction extremely unprofessional and disappointing. During the interview, instead of clearly discussing the salary structure and asking for my agreement, they only asked, “Is it true that your minimum expected salary is RM2,000? Do you think you can survive with RM1,700 after the statutory deductions?” — a question that felt inappropriate and dismissive of my financial needs.
I travelled 6 to 7 hours by car just to attend the interview in person, showing my genuine interest and commitment to the opportunity. I was okay with the possibility that I might not be selected after the interview — I understand that not every candidate will be a match. However, what truly upset me was the fact that they did offer me the position, only to revoke it after I politely followed up by email.
This company shows strong red flags and a lack of professionalism. This experience has left me with the impression that the company does not value open communication or treat potential employees with respect. If this is how they handle things before an employee even starts, I worry about how they treat their actual staff. A professional company should be open to respectful dialogue, not shut it down completely. This entire process has been incredibly discouraging, and I hope they reflect on how they handle candidates in the future.
The interviews are quite difficult but the selection process is fair. So it is really worth it if you want to apply for a job there. I wish you the best of luck.
