It's absolutely challenging, but fun at the same time. After a casual discussion with the Leadership Team, if there is consensus from both sides that it's a potentially good fit you are asked to demonstrate your skills by taking a common business use case and building out a short demo in a developer org. There is no timeline or expectations, and you get complete creative control over what you build. When you're ready, you schedule time with the team to present what you built! Some technical questions are asked, and then the leadership team drops and you can speak directly with other employees to get an unbiased view of the company, what it's like to work here, etc. And that's it, it's a 2-step process! After that, if there is consensus among the team you are contacted, pretty quickly, about the decision.
