      Bilingual Field Service Engineer Interview

      Aug 10, 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Chandler, AZ
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Nikon Precision (Chandler, AZ) in Jul 2022

      Interview

An initial screen call with a recruiter (who was a fantastic person!!). Basic background questions. Then ~1hr online exam, it is a fundamental engineering exam, but it is one of those quick thinking, intuition testing one...no preparation needed, just be a good engineer that you are. 3rd round is a panel interview with about 10 members, they are all working for NPI for many many years, and the combined years of working at Nikon were well over 100 years. This should tell you it is an organization that will let you stay and work hard for the rest of your life! Despite your background, they are simply looking for a "good engineer," rather than the super-specific engineer many companies want these days. Also, they want you to commit the rest of your life to them, basically. Will pay pretty well for the Phoenix area, it is a good gig. Are you a good engineer? Then you may feel at home at NPI :) Best wishes to the company, good luck to you, candidate!

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Why NPI? And some bit twisted, but good questions (many were "describe ~~ in three words" type questions). "Why should we hire you?"

      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Nikon Precision (Portland, OR) in Feb 2022

      Interview

I went through an interview with HR where we discussed general things about where I currently work and when I can start then I went on to take a mechanical aptitude test. After passing the aptitude test I went on to an interview with one site supervisor which was more technical where I was asked a few questions like do I know what a torque wrench is or an oscillometer is. After this I went on to a panel interview with a Site Supervisor and Site Technical Lead, along with the Associate Director of Field Services which had more technical questions like how does light bend in different types of lenses or mirrors. Then I went on to an interview with the Senior VP of Engineering from japan and the Associate Director of Engineering in Japanese. This also consisted of different technical questions and it was pretty much a test of my Japanese. After this interview I was told by the HR that I was to receive an offer and to wait till next week for them to send it to me. Then I was told I was going to do an interview with the CEO of Nikon Precision for a final interview where they will explain my role there at Nikon. I then received a phone call from HR that they will go in a different direction since my Japanese wasn't up to the level needed which I found was extremely unprofessional since the HR rep had told me they would send me an offer.
