I applied online as a network passed along the post. Got contacted to set up for an interview with the HR person and then one with one of the managing directors the following week. Both conversations were pleasant and friendly, although I also genuinely felt like we weren't getting to the "meat" of the job and what I would potentially be working on. I don't think it was necessarily about confidentiality or that it was a video format, it could have been these were meant to be introductory interviews. I performed the example exercise and found out a few days later I did not get the job. From what I could gather, they wanted someone who would need less training (on paper I say I did fit the required qualifications but not the preferred ones). This was disappointing. While this could have been a matter of the applicant pool of including someone(s) who really did fit everything they wanted, it was a little frustrating to find that apparently they were not interested in investing in someone who might not quite fit all the qualifications but was willing to learn and it would have been better if they had listed all qualifications as required or that they were looking for a perfect fit. In the end this was for the best to learn that at this stage, though, because while I was still interested in the position, I'd rather be working for an organization that was more invested in my professional growth. At least I didn't have to find out after an in-person interview or while on the job. Again, I would have likely continued the process and might have even accepted a job if there had one been extended, but organizations wanting "cookie cutter" candidates also means they may not be as dedicated to hiring a diverse applicant pool, either.
