Submitted my resume through VCU Rams Recruiting website. I received a call the following day from one of the interviewers and scheduled an appointment for the interview. On the day of the interview I met with the woman who worked in the same position as me (the one who called me) and the head of that department for accounting. Was asked a lot of questions about myself, where I attended school and why I responded to the posting. After this part of the interview was done, I was led to a room where I was given a basic payroll test with 2 different mock "employee time sheets" which came with a list of instructions for what you need to do. Basically the test went like this: In an Excel workbook, there were about 5-7 tabs, each of which you would be modifying per the exam instructions. The very first tab had the instructions that asked you to modify something on another sheet. For instance, it would ask you to go to the mileage tab and input the correct amount of mileages that employee "donald duck" traveled during the course of the week. So you would pull donald duck's time sheet and input his time. There were other aspects of employee timesheets and contract info that were input like this. It was not difficult, however, not enough spoken instructions were given, you were told you had to take the test and follow the instructions. At first the test seemed intimidating, however, it was very common sense based.
I feel I should add that when I went in for this test, it was much worse than before. They told me it should take about 10-15 minutes, but it was very hard to understand at first what the terminology meant, so it ended up taking about an hour. When they called me for the second interview, they had given the test to one of their lead employees in another department who pointed out a few other problems with the test. I was given a second chance with the test and it went a lot more smoothly. I also interviewed with the CFO the second time and pretty much he asked me the same questions they two ladies had asked me during the first interview.
