Interview
I applied to an unspecified lab online and heard back by email (as preferred in my application) in 2-3 weeks. They were starting up a new lab and establish the initial members. First I interviewed with the human resources representative that had contacted me. This mostly consisted of general interview questions including background, experience, and why MSKCC. This was fairly quick maybe about 30-40 minutes.
I was shuttled to the research laboratories where I met with the PI and had a laid-back discussion/interview about the research, my specific experience/skills, and what I would be expected to be doing. I was given a break down of what my day would be like. Admittedly I was not the most qualified candidate but was reassured that most things could be taught in 1-2 months. I was told that there ideally would be an opportunity for an independent research project if things went well. This was about 35 minutes long.
Overall the whole process went fairly smoothly and everyone was nice and approachable. The interviews seemed less formal and stressful than other interviews. I was not asked for references like others have stated so I guess that was a sign that they were looking for someone more qualified.
Would you be comfortable working with mice? Would you be comfortable doing organizational work and working as a point person for everyone in the lab? (Lab specific questions)

Interview
In-person interview in the Zuckerman research building where I met the director of the Antitumor Assessment Core Facility. It was nice to have a group discussion with the team, learning more about the work environment and get a tour of the lab facility.
