Content Marketing & Communications Manager Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Melissa & Doug (Wilton, CT) in Nov 2021

      Interview

I received an email at 11pm from a recruiter who wanted to speak to me before the holidays. She provided availability as soon as 10am the next morning, so I accepted thinking I had enough knowledge about the company as a mom myself and my strong marketing background. I also assumed it would be a quick screening call, however, she scheduled an hour which felt odd, but I was excited for the opportunity to work for a company I believed in. The next day, the recruiter seemed really nice. Talked about the transformation and new direction of the company. She also then asked lots of questions about my background, why I’m interested, etc. There were a lot of detailed/in the weeds marketing questions that came up, and I personally felt a lot of my responses went over her head because she would ask a question that I just included in a previous answer. All in all, she seemed confident about introducing me to the team as a next step and said she’d be in touch in a few days. I sent my usual thank you note, along with some clarity and examples on the topics I don’t think she fully grasped that I had shared. No response. I waited a few more weeks, sent a follow up that I’m still interested and would appreciate an update either way. No response again, As others have stated, it’s not about the job as I had one then and have also moved onto a new position - but after taking over an hour of my time (while I was on maternity leave nonetheless), I found it extremely telling that I was completely ghosted. A simple note to say they’re going in a different direction - even if automated - would’ve been nice. Since then I’ve seen this same position come up in various alerts with slightly different titles and job descriptions tweaked, so it seems they didn’t know what they actually wanted. But it definitely left a bad taste in my mouth since I took time to meet - and on short notice - as well as that since I became a mom, I’ve advocated for the product and what a good company it is.

      Question 1

She asked questions about the differences in my roles at my last job (I had two different roles due to a promotion) as well as other marketing related inquiries.
