I applied online. I interviewed at Marriott International (Bloomington, MN) in Jun 2018
Interview
Applied online via Indeed and was asked to come in roughly 3 days later.
The interview itself was extremely easy. I interviewed for an opening at the Minneapolis Airport Marriott. I was offered the job but ended up turning it down in the end. This particular Marriott was owned by Marcus Group.
The work environment seemed very strict and not employee friendly. The pay was $15 an hour. They expected me to wear a suit, tie, dress pants, the whole kit while I was a work every day. I thought this was absurd for being in a position that barely had any customer face to face interaction. I think the worst part about it though is that they don't offer a uniform nor offer to help pay for purchasing suits, They cannot expect someone to go out and buy several suits, ties, dress pants, etc for a $15 an hour job.
Additional rules they had that I thought were ridiculous:
- No cell phones at all. Not even at your work desk
- No ear piercings for guys allowed
- For some reason, they pay you your income through a debit card
- Cannot eat lunch at your desk
- Cannot be on hotel property at all during outside work hours
- Must provide doctors note for any sickness. Even if you call in sick due to a common cold, you gotta pay the money to go to the doctor only so you don't get in trouble by work. If you don't get a note, then you're in grounds of job termination
- If you are late by even a minute, you have to call your supervisor immediately. If not...you're in grounds of termination
I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Marriott International (Houston, TX) in Jan 2016
Interview
Submitted my resume via Marriott careers website. Was contacted by a franchised location by phone and scheduled for an interview. I met with HR director and 2 managers I would be reporting to. Took 2 more weeks to receive a phone call for a 2nd interview, and given an offer a few days later.
Don't be discouraged if the hiring process takes a few weeks or months!
