      Product Designer Interview

      Feb 28, 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at MX in Jan 2023

      Interview

There are 6 rounds of interviews which consists of the phone screen with HR, the hiring manager, upper management, product design team members, and a presentation of your portfolio to a panel. It's all scheduled within a two day span which doesn't make much sense because if you fail a round, you won't be meeting the other people. I realized I didn't make the next round when I showed up to the next interview and no one was there. I had to contact HR for them to tell me I didn't make it. I feel that my time wasn't respected.

      Question 1

-what's a complex project you've worked on? - tell me about a time you saw a problem and proposed a solution? - tell me about a time you had to make a decision without information?

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at MX (Lehi, UT) in May 2019

      Interview

The first contact with MX was via phone call with the recruiter. She then scheduled a 30-min phone call with two designers. That interview was mainly focused on reviewing my resume, talking about tools. experience and culture. Then the recruiter schedule an on-site interview spitted into two 1-hour sessions. The first hour I met with an engineer and a Sr Designer. I got to choose a project in my portfolio and explained it to them. There were also questions related to my background and experience in the industry. For the second hour, I met with the Product Design Manager and a Lead Engineer. they gave me a design challenge. I had 30min to come up with a solution for it. they were very clear from the beginning that there wasn't a right or wrong answer, that the purpose of the challenge was for me to show my design process and problem-solving skills. After those two sessions, the recruiter scheduled a final on-site interview which included a 20min meeting with an executive to go over parts of my portfolio and also the role I was interviewing for, and 40min with the VP of People Operations to talk about mission, vision, values, culture, etc.
