It was a great conversation in person at the design studio... I was sent a formal offer letter the next day with a start date.. I clarified a few things including a phone they offered, some weeks they close down, and if they have a maternity leave policy.. I have always had one at the other firms I worked at, especially in a career field with mostly women. The owner had kids too.. keep that in mind.. they resented the offer and said I wasn’t “all in” . I asked if I could clarify anything and they accused me of not being career oriented( the whole reason I was looking for a new job was to find one that would teach me more so that I would be a more balanced/ educated designer one day.. aka al about bettering my career). I said I hope they didn’t the right applicant and the admin said thank you.. I thought it was over.. only for the owner who was CC’d in everything to email me personally addressing the fact that she felt I want career minded and wished me well with my future family.. again I should note it would have been fine if they didn’t have a policy, I just wanted to know for planing purposes.. it was not a deal breaker.. I’m not having plans right now but I am married and life happens.. a professional response would have been they do not have a policy in place and for them to ask if it was a deal breaker for me.. I would have then said no.. that should have been the end of it.. I was discriminated against for the possibility that I may have a child in the future, called not “all in” or “career minded” they completely assumed my position which was illegal especially brigade they already had given me the offer letter.. I know my way around a good luxury design company and what good benefits are.. I’m glad this opportunity did not work out because they clearly are not professional or ethical.. This company offered me a great job and benefits and wanted me to start right away.. I know I am a valuable accent and she implied I wouldn’t be a good investment as well with additional comments made.. my resume/experience would say otherwise... I am a very honest person and was also trying to leave a toxic work environment.. again in review this company will probably be a great learning experience for someone but I highly discourage you applying if you have an intention having a family at ANY point in your future as well as if you value good professional work ethics.
