Initial call with a third-party recruiter/headhunter. Then had a videoconference with the firm president. After the president, they sent me a "cultural survey" via email, access the survey through a link. Then had a videoconference with the executive management team. Then, they offered to fly both my wife (!) and I to Huntsville, AL for an onsite visit at their home offices. The onsite visit consisted of a steakhouse dinner with the executive management team, my wife, and myself and what amounted to a six hour interview the next day at the firm's home offices in which I spent an hour one-on-one with each member of the executive management team. Takeaways: 1) Make absolutely sure your ground transportation is squared away. When I arrived, just before midnight, I found that Uber errored out and was unable to book a ride through them. Upon calling all the cab companies in town, I found that they stop answering their phones at some point during the evening. I was able to leave the airport only because I managed to book THE last car at the airport from the car rental counter. 2) As it relates to the firm, the interview, the job...I feel like something else was going on. I left the firm's offices upon the conclusion of my visit and upon opening my emails, found a message from a different headhunter sent to me earlier that day for the exact, same position. Yes, this email arrived while my onsite visit was still in progress. When I investigated further, I found that the firm had originally posted an ad for this role on LinkedIn that attracted nearly five dozen candidates. Then, I found out that the firm had several different headhunters searching for candidates. As of this writing, it is a month since I visited and they have yet to make a hire. I think their interview and decision process is conducted such as to let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
