      Sales Development Representative Interview

      Apr 23, 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Denver, CO
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at JourneyApps (Denver, CO) in Apr 2018

      Interview

I had one brief phone interview with Conrad (CEO) and Ed (Sales Development), which I assume went well. They had me come into the office for a second interview with Conrad, Ed and Philip, we reviewed the information I discussed with them on the previous call, asked some additional questions and gave me a surprise sales roleplay. Neither interview was very formal, but be prepared for the roleplay even if they do not specifically tell you there will be one. At the end of the second interview they offered me the job pending my references on Thursday. Friday and Monday they called on my references. The recruiter then called and said that they had changed their mind and it wasn't going to be the right fit. I was informed that my references were good but they worried about my personality fit. I would have rated the experience as positive or neutral but my experience ended negatively without a real understanding of what their concerns were. I would just caution them in the future on making offers prematurely.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience, we appreciate it. When we verbally state that we intend to make an offer before we have done a reference check, we always state that the offer is contingent on the general reference check being satisfactory. It seems that the recruiter said to you: "I was informed that my references were good but they worried about my personality fit." Unfortunately it seems like there was a miscommunication between us, the recruiter, and you. The references were not good enough to move forward — red flags were raised in 2 reference calls that prompted us to make the decision not to move forward with the offer, based on our prior experience with similar feedback in reference calls.
