      Machine Operator Interview

      May 18, 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Toronto, ON
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at J.D. Irving (Toronto, ON) in Mar 2015

      Interview

Step 1: Invited to referring job agency (TES) to do three assessments (general intelligence + personality + mechanical aptitude). Step 2: Assuming step 1 is passed, Irving sends an additional two online personality-themed assessments, particularly about how you would handle situations in the workplace (IE: workplace theft). Step 3: Invited for in-person panel interview. Three people: HR person, factory line supervisor, and one other person. Following questions were asked: How long did it take you to get here? How does your previous job experience prepare you for this job? What do you know about Irving Tissue? Do you know what the schedule is like (shift work)? How would this schedule work into your class schedule? If you had work and class on the same day, how would you solve the conflict? What do you know about the job itself? Explain how you would work within a team? How would you handle a stressful situation on the job? If you see a worker breaking safety rules, how would you approach the situation? What do you like to do for fun? Do you have any questions for us? This was as far as I got, but from what I've heard, there is an additional in-depth interview (Step 4) with a single person if you pass the panel interview, along with a factory tour. After that, there is another step (Step 5), requiring a medical test. There was no notification from either the employer nor the job agency that my application was rejected, or no offer was going to be made. I had to e-mail in a month later to learn this.
