I received a call from an HR admin, which I missed and attempted to return. She emailed me back describing the position, and scheduled me with a short call with the ‘hiring manager’ for the position, which was a gentleman with the same last name (uh oh, here we go!).
Other than the initial phone call which I didn’t even get to answer, the HR rep refused to answer the phone and instead insisted on conversation via email only. She wasn’t able to answer a single question I had, and constantly deferred to the manager. This was already a big giant waving red flag, but, at this point, I was curious.
After a short call with the hiring manager in which I was certain to ask about the actual status of the contract, I was assured by him verbally that InSequence had ‘just won a 5-year contract’, and shortly after a ‘contingent’ offer was sent to me.
The contingent offer clearly stated that the position was contingent on contract award.
Yikes.
Now, I’ve done this for a little while and am no stranger to positions advertised in advance of a contract award. However, the fact that the manager was straight-up dishonest with me during the interview, and the fact that I would be dropped from consideration like a bad habit had I been dishonest about anything really just turned me off to the whole ordeal.
I ended up rejecting the contingent offer, as I had luckily already received two other offers for positions that actually existed.
