I submitted a resume on their website and two weeks later they emailed asking for a cover letter. I sent them a cover letter and they then requested that we set up a phone interview. After emailing them about my availability, we set up an interview for a date later that week. During the interview with one of their history curriculum designers, they asked standard questions (why I was interested in the job, questions about challenges in previous jobs etc.). After the standard questions, they presented me with a brain teaser which I worked through with a bit of direction from my interviewer. The will ask if you have previously heard the offered brain teaser and will provide you with an alternate question if so. The interview ended with my questions about the position. I didn't feel particularly confident about the interview and was surprised to learn hours later that they wanted me to complete a trial work assignment for them. The assignment had two parts. One part asked me to come up with parameters for a random generator to create a near infinite number of a certain kind of question while the other asked me to come up with learning objectives and three multiple choice questions for a particular topic. They gave me a week to complete the assignment and told me it would take about 3 hours. I turned in the assignment in (it took me about 5 hours to complete all in all) and four days later received a form email telling me that they were not going to move on with the interview process. I was a bit irritated that they did not provide me with a specific reason as to why I was no longer being considered for the position given the time investment it took to participate in their interview process.
