I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Hinge
Interview
The phone screen process began with a discussion of the role which was was unclearly defined as it was explained that this was IC role with management responsibilities. There was some discussion about the amount of analytics vs ML work this role entailed.
I was asked a SQL question and two to three statistics/ML-based questions. There was no build up in the SQL question and it expected the user to dive directly into advanced analytic window function concepts. Likewise, the statistics questions were posed in a quiz-like fashion (e.g. there was no case study and questions were unrelated to one another).

Question 1
Given a table named employees which contains columns employee_id, last_name, first_name, salary, department and another table, employees_projects, with columns employee_id and project_id, with a query to select the top two employees alphabetically per project, where alphabetically means ordered by last_name and then first_name.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Hinge in Sep 2025
Interview
The interview process was structured and transparent throughout. It began with an HR screen, followed by a hiring manager round. Then came a take-home exercise, which was discussed in a skills interview covering SQL, A/B testing, and the project itself. The final round was a culture interview, which gave me a great sense of the team’s values and collaboration style.
