After a brief phone culture interview, I conducted an editing test. The instructions were clear and the test was of a reasonable type and duration for an unpaid test. After the test there was a second brief phone interview, then an interview at the Portland office downtown.
The interview process was great until the end. I thought the three interviews and test had gone very well, and they had been very responsive and quick to advance the process up until that point, then they took between two or three weeks to contact me and let me know they'd accepted another candidate. To suddenly have them go silent that late in the process, when I felt good about my chances and was hopeful of an offer, felt disrespectful of my time.
