I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at GitLab in Oct 2023
Interview
I recently had an interview experience with GitLab that left me feeling quite disappointed. I wanted to share my thoughts on this platform to help others considering applying to GitLab understand my experience. I went through a multi-stage interview process, which included five rounds. I was genuinely excited about the opportunity to work at GitLab, given their reputation in the tech industry. Throughout the process, I felt confident that I was a strong fit for the role, and the feedback I received was generally positive. However, what left me disheartened was the lack of transparency in the selection process. It seemed to me that the company might have already had a preferred candidate in mind from the beginning. This left me questioning the fairness of the process and whether all candidates had a genuine opportunity to compete on a level playing field. I understand that companies have their own internal dynamics and preferences, but maintaining transparency and fairness in the hiring process is crucial for a positive candidate experience. While not being selected is a part of the job search process, a more open and honest approach can make the experience less discouraging. I would have appreciated more detailed feedback about why I wasn't chosen for the role, as this would have helped me understand areas for improvement in future interviews. In conclusion, I respect GitLab as a company and what they stand for, and my intention in writing this review is to shed light on aspects of the interview process that could be improved to make it more equitable and positive for future candidates. I hope that GitLab continues to excel in its mission and that potential candidates have a more transparent experience in the future.
