I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Garten Services in Nov 2024
Interview
Starter phone interview was really simple and gave a friendly impression. Good questions that avoid the standard "What do you bring to the team" feel, and focuses more on "Do you know what you are getting into?"
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Garten Services (Salem, OR) in Aug 2018
Interview
Unprofessional. There was a two week lag where the Garten org did not communicate with me around status nor was there messaging around what next steps I could expect in the process from the two panel members when I visited. Clearly messaging next steps to a candidate is key for a positive candidate experience and someone in the org should be a designated point of contact for all recruitment, whether that is the assigned recruiter or the hiring manager.
Second, when I arrived I did not meet the previous recruiter. I met another person who did not manage the process, this person also mentioned I would be taking a test of sorts but did not describe it and assured me it was "no big deal". Candidates need to know exactly what to expect each step of the way so that they can adequately prepare and demonstrate their skills so that the org can make the best selection. After I was finished with the test I waited in the lobby for about 20min.
The interview panel was different then what was communicated, I expected to meet with the CFO, Pamela Best. Another person not on Executive team filled in for her. I have concerns that the vetting process is not consistent for every candidate and I fully expected that the recruiter would have arranged for me to have a phone conversation with the CFO.
Finally, the interview process was about two hours, the time commitment was fine for me. Candidates should know what to expect here also so that they can plan for work-life contingencies.
