I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at GameStop in Nov 2010
Interview
3 months before this GameStop was going to begin hiring for seasonal I was requested to apply by the store manager and soon after the District Manager. The manager was very impressed at how well I was able to initiate and talk to people; mostly in regards to the parents.
When the time came for her to look over seasonal applicants; I decided to apply and after observing how well she managed her store it seemed to be an acceptable job and work environment.
The interview process was very relaxed and took place in the store. Questions consisted of days and hours I would be available to work.
Followed by a series of questions on how I would answer questions about a game to customers who were considering a game for their children.
Also how I would take the ESRB rating into wether I would recommend the game they asked about.
Various scenarios were set up with different games by systems, ESRB ratings, and customer age groups.
This part of the interview process was given a considerable amount of time; mostly due to ability to relate to people the parents in particular.
After that part the rest of the interview covered general work and company policies.
Then a discourse on sexual harassment: and what behaviors could constitute as such and how they should be handled.
The remainder of the interview was to verify all required information on my application.
Soon after I was offered the position.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Can behavior outside of work between coworkers be considered sexual harassment?
Met with the manager and interviewed. Good interview, professional, the questions were good and not invasive. The job seemed like a good fit but there were only a few positions open.
I applied in-person. I interviewed at GameStop (Fairfield, CA)
Interview
Standard questions given by the managers and assistant manager. Questions involving teamwork, managing time, and organization. Also, work history and education. Experience with last and current game consoles is a must. Relaxed environment while appearing business casual. No need to do an online application.
Applied online and then got a call to schedule interview. She asked me about what games I like, consoles I have, etc...Then she went over how strict the job is alongside the pay rate and I, for some reason, still said I wanted to work there.
