      General Manager Interview

      Apr 6, 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at First Watch (New York, NY)

      Interview

Phone interview with regional manager.. From there there is an online assessment. If that is passed you move onto a working interview. You are asked to peel and cut a melon, flip an egg in a sauté pan and drop and flip a pancake. After the kitchen work is done you work a little in the dining room learning their bussing technique. After working part is done you have a sit down with the manager as well as have breakfast. Overall a painless interview.

      General Manager Interview

      Sep 26, 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at First Watch in Sep 2017

      Interview

Invited in for a brief overview of kitchen operations which was also an evaluation of sorts as I found out later. I was told that everything about my interview was great except that they hoped I would be more hands on in the kitchen portion. Really guys? Were they expecting me to just start cooking like had worked there before? Seriously the first thing I would have done would not have been to be more hands on in the cooking aspect. They really needed help mostly in their standards department as well as their health department guidelines. Very very dirty in the kitchen and walk in cooler. The regional manager was my partner for the morning and he grabbed a sanitized towel from an extremely dirty sani bucket to wipe off a knife that he then used to show me how to cut pineapples. Who would have thought to clean it properly? So if I would have been more hands on I would have fired him on the spot. I retracted my application with their Human Resources.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Basically they asked very basic questions, and picked apart my resume. No surprises except that the time you spend in the kitchen in an evaluation. Kind of silly. It's exactly like judging somebody in their prospective role before they have a minute of training. Guess what. They probably always suck, or at least could be much better.
