      Mid-Level Frontend Engineer Interview

      Sep 3, 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Fieldwire in May 2024

      Interview

Beware. Like the other reviews stated, this company has been posting fake job postings with no intention to hire, including for this role. Don't waste your time interviewing with this company. Interview process: Phone screen with recruiter, then you will have 1 hour interview with an engineering manager. It's mainly a discussion about the role and company itself and any questions you might have. After that, you have the option to do the take-home challenge or not. You have a week to complete and submit the take-home challenge and on the virtual onsite, you will have a 1 hr interview for the extension of the take-home challenge. If you did not choose to do the take-home, you will have a different interview in place of this one: It will be a 1.5 hour session with a live coding challenge and pairing. Depending on whether you pass this round or not, you will move on to 2 x 1 hr interviews: One technical deep dive on a project and one on systems design.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

System design of a Google Drive-like system, thinking about parts like storage, retrieval, scalability, and efficiency.
      Answer question

      Question 2

Take-home: Create a gallery using an API they provided with search functionality.

      Interview

Phone screen with the recruiter. Then you will talk to an engineering leader to see if you're a good fit. After that, you do a take home challenge where you create a photo gallery search using the Imgur API. Unfortunately, my submission got lost for about a month so I heard nothing back for a long time. Eventually they contacted me and scheduled me for 3 more interviews: a live coding extension of the take-home challenge, a deep-dive into a recent project you did (no coding) and a systems design interview. You can only move on to the deep-dive/systems design if you pass the coding extension. The coding extension is just manipulating the data from the Imgur API and has nothing to do with the actual code you wrote for the take home challenge. Just make sure your fetch function is good. I don't think they even review the take home challenge, it's just a way to weed people out. My interviewer said he never saw my code so I have no idea who did. In the live coding extension, all they want you to do is manipulate the data from the Imgur API. So if you know all the built-in methods for objects and arrays in JavaScript you will pass this. Overall, I'm not sure the interview process reflects the actual capabilities of what it's like to be a frontend developer day to day. ChatGPT can do everything they ask in the live extension in 10 seconds but if you don't know the built-in object/array methods off the top of your head, you won't pass.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Given the data, print out all the names of the tags
      Answer question

      Question 2

Give all the names of the tags, create a new array that has all unique names of the tags and the frequency they appear
      Answer question
      4
