      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Fannie Mae in Apr 2010

      Interview

I had applied online on the fannie mae career website. I was contacted by an Recruiter from fannie mae 3 weeks after i applied. He seemed nice and asked general questions about my background and informed me the job i had applied and scheduled an interview with the team for which the positions was. The interview was technical and generally consisted of general questions. He also asked me few technical questions and if i had applied any of the softwares i had learnt in actual jobs. The interviewer although i felt was less interactive.I would recommend get your financial basics clear if your applying here. I guess that is of prime importance

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Fannie Mae (Washington, DC) in Dec 2019

      Interview

They have the nerve to ask applicants if they've ever filed bankruptcy when Fannie Mae is in receivership itself. They say they will pay for parking in their garage but they give you directions to a non-existent garage so you'll have to park anywhere else and pay for our own parking anyway. Their offices downtown are palatial. They have fancier office space than the top-tier D.C. law firms. Spending freely in the name of the U.S. public, I guess. Curiously the software guys who interviewed me don't admit to working for Fannie Mae on their LinkedIn profiles, instead claiming to be computer game developers. Ashamed of their day jobs?

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Fannie Mae (Washington, DC) in Oct 2017

      Interview

I applied through my college job board and ended up being selected for an in-person interview on campus. The entire process is very competitive. Out of the several hundred students that applied for the position, Fannie interviewed about 10 per campus and invited 2-3 back for a final round in Washington DC. The interviews were overall easy and the method they moved forward with candidates seemed rather arbitrary. The on-campus interview consisted of confessing your knowledge of Fannie Mae and the mortgage market, then walking through your resume for relevant experience. About a week later, you will hear back and if invited to Washington, the interview will consist of three 30 minute 1 on 1 interviews that ask behavioral, educational and case study questions respectively. The enterprise was very accommodating and the process was an enjoyable experience.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What does Fannie Mae do? How have you demonstrated curiosity, problem solving and quantitative ability? What coding projects have you worked on? Fannie has 17 million mortgage securities, how would you valuate how much they are all worth in total? Derive Black-Scholes (only if strong math background/major).
