I applied online initially and a recruiter reached out to me one month later. My initial phone interview was with a VP. He thought the role that I applied for initially wouldn't be a great fit, but suggested another role where he saw a good fit. I totally appreciated this and agreed that the other role sounded like a better fit for what I was looking for.
I am very transparent by nature and appreciate the same from others. However, he proceeded to point out the "problematic" and "concerning" pieces of my experience in a condescending way. The interview was conducted in a way where he made assumptions and was critiquing my experience based on my resume instead of having an open dialogue with me about my background. I was criticized for my "business acumen" based solely on my resume and was not given any opportunity to explain my decision-making process in a given scenario. The entire conversation felt like more of a single-sided "roast" than an interview.
I ended up moving onto the next stage in the interview process (an onsite) and just took the initial phone screening with a grain of salt and kept an open mind. The onsite was scheduled and rescheduled three different times and there was not a lot of flexibility in regards to scheduling around my current work schedule. Additionally, the interactions were not very personal and most of the email interaction came across as automated emails. The few times I did have a personal email interaction with the recruiter she was brief and friendly.
I finally get the onsite scheduled 3-4 weeks after the recruiter initially reached out. At this point, I'm deep in the interview process with a few other companies. I sent a polite email canceling the interview and wishing them luck in hiring another candidate. I receive no response or acknowledgement. Two days later I receive an automated email letting me know that my "experience and qualifications" are not what they're looking for.
The interview process is meant to be two-sided where both parties involved are determining if they are a right fit for one another. The experience was not personal; my verbal interactions felt belittling and it felt more like Everstring was doing me a favor by interviewing me which I can only take as being reflective of the company culture.
