I walked into the PI's lab and he pretty much just asked me about my prior lab experiences and what I expected to gain by working in his lab. He told me about his research and a few of the projects that his lab was working on etc. Honestly he was really easy going.

What effect does an amino acid alteration have on a protein?
Email the professor, have a conversation. Then they will usually ask about your relevant classes and determine if you are a good fit. Usually strong interest will get the job.

Interview
It was a quick 60 minute chat with a behavioural interview followed by a technical round related to research writing. The interviewer was warm and friendly. It was conducted online via Zoom and we worked collaboratively on a google doc to look at my writing and research process.
