      Certified Nursing Assistant CNA Interview

      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Duke Health in Jan 2024

      Interview

Instead of being contacted via email to schedule my availability for a phone screening interview (as I always have). I was called during the middle of a work day by talent acquisition, MS, who immediately starts interviewing me and asking me questions regarding an application. After a few questions, I was asked for my availability to schedule a zoom meeting with the hiring manager. When he asked if x day at y time worked, I asked if there was any other available times that day or we could just push the interview to the following day. He then gave me a snarky remark which I did not appreciate and thought was unprofessional. Ultimately, after interviewing with the hiring manager I received a job offer. The hiring manager extended an opportunity for me to come and shadow the unit. While I was supposed to be "shadowing" I was actually put to work for free after being introduced to the nurses/staff as a shadower (an observer). After constantly being told to do things for nurses who sat scrolling on social media (linen change, help with xyz patient, etc) I got out of there the first chance I could. The icing of the cake was when one of the female nurses sitting on her phone turns to me and the CNA I was supposed to be "shadowing" and says "x patient requested two females to help them hint hint" l turned to her and told her "I do not work here" and left. This was a terrible experience from start to finish. I declined due to the low ball off they sent me even though I have a B.S., nearly 2 years of experience, and certifications. Not to mention, you also have to pay for parking. I was not impressed with Duke's culture due to various encounters with out-right rude employees and refuse to work somewhere where I am not compensated appropriately.
