      Corporate Communications Interview

      Jan 14, 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at DraftKings (New York, NY) in Sep 2022

      Interview

The interview process was disappointing from start to finish. I met remotely with several team members, and it became immediately clear that this role was less about qualifications and more about fitting into an insular clique. One interviewer casually mentioned that the role was open because the previous employee, described as one of his "best friends," had taken another offer. While I was told I was well-qualified, the focus shifted to finding the "right fit," which felt more like code for fitting into their exclusionary culture. The interviewers were ill-prepared, which was evident in their vague questions and lack of understanding of my extensive experience with a major global sports organization. Despite my deep knowledge of their business area, I was asked if I "knew about sports or betting," a baffling and dismissive question given my background. The tone of the conversation and their overall demeanor gave the impression that they did not take me—or women in general—seriously. The entire process felt like a confirmation of the "boys' club" culture, steeped in favoritism, exclusion, and a clear lack of respect for women or professionalism. It was a deeply disheartening experience.
