      Sales Development Representative Interview

      Mar 19, 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Boston, MA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Datadog (Boston, MA) in Feb 2021

      Interview

I think the best way to describe the process is simply cruel. There is way too many interview steps that are redundant and repetitive. The recruiter seems in no rush and the process extended over a month with lots of waiting in between. Turns out the job was already filled and when I looked back at the first email I received it said "As an FYI we are finishing up some final rounds for this position so I'm going to see how that all shakes out and schedule a time for you to chat with a hiring manager at some point next week. Thank you for your patience here" So it was a waste of time to go through the process anyway but I didn't fully process it. Anyways after my panel interview, I had a phone call where I was told a few excuses and I felt bad the recruiter had to do it. She kept stumbling over her words and inventing new things that the "team told her" I just think candidates appreciate honesty and not having their time wasted.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Lots of steps in the process has me thinking that they were more interested in working on the interview process over actually hiring candidates. Step 1 - Phone Screening Questions: Your background and how it can be applied to the Sales Development role? What do you know so far about Datadog's product? What sparked your interest in working here? Why do you want to build a career in sales? Step 2 - Phone Call with manager Datadog research / understanding (what do we sell / who do we sell to / what problems do we solve) Your ability to answer questions while providing relevant examples from previous work experience, internships, schools projects, classes, etc. Step 3 - Second Phone Screening Same exact questions Step 4 - Virtual Panel Part 1 - Meeting with 2 SDRs. Very basic SDR questions like what makes a good SDR, How do you overcome objections, etc Part 2 - Meeting with an SDR Hiring Manager Questions like whats a goal you're proud of, what qualities make a good SDR, etc Part 3 - Meeting with a Senior SDR Manager (Same exact questions)

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Datadog (Boston, MA) in Oct 2022

      Interview

I had a 30 minute HR interview for a SDR role in Boston. I appreciated that Datadog provided discussion points for the call beforehand. Despite being prepared and having an overall productive conversation, I found the NYC recruiter to be beyond rude. When I inquired about company meetings (which wasn't on my list of questions to ask but while I was scrolling to my pre-prepared questions in my word doc, I nervously just asked about company/team meetings) she expressed her judgement to my question with 5+ seconds of obnoxious, very loud, intentional "coughing" that was unmistakably judgement and jumping to conclusions. I felt that the conversation had gone well up until this point. Recruiters have the power to make candidates feel uplifted or torn down during interviews - and this recruiter certainly succeeded in doing the latter. It's unnecessary and unfortunately a terrible look both for her personally and Datadog.
