      Manager Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at DISH (New York, NY) in Feb 2017

      Interview

Feedback is in chronological order. I applied to a role in pricing team. The HR recruiter called me back after and reviewed my resume then decided I should interview for another job. I thought this was odd, but dismissed it as a red flag because I thought it would give me two shots to join Dish. At this time I was asked to take an online quiz consisting of Math and English questions – and I was told that this would be the only quiz that I would have to take. Test are not my favorite form of assessment as it doesn’t add dimension to the value that I might bring to the company. The HR recruiter said my resume would be socialize to the hiring manager and then if I was selected they would give me further details of next steps. The HR recruiter got back to me and said that they wanted to meet for 4 hours. The plan was to meet with 4 people for 30 minutes and then take two more tests. I was pretty turned off that this point because I remember the HR recruiter mentioning that my first quiz would be the only assessment. I did my research on the people that I was going to meet and did my best preparation. On the day of the interview, the office location was in a nice area and the actual work spaces seemed nice as well. I was greeted by the person who the HR person had identified. I then met with the four people of which one was the hiring manager, two where senior leaders in the organization and one was a colleague. All of them where very nice. However the hiring manager was distracted and dismissive once I answered a question regarding product knowledge that was not at the level that was required (proficient vs expert). This was not even the role I had originally applied for so I thought it was unfair to be rejected for something I really didn’t sign up for. All of the individuals stressed how you constantly have to do roles that are not within the role requirements. I think I was fine with that but I question how far outside your scope do you have to accept responsibilities and it is to set you up for failure if you don’t successfully accomplish the task. When I was done with the interviews I was taken to an office to complete two tests (Wunderlick and some other one). I didn’t prepare for them, I don’t know if you can. My eyes glazed over. They give you a note that says your tests scores will not be shared and there are also additional requirements if you make it past this milestone. The person who initiated the test for me informed me that I would hear back in two weeks. I finished my tests and left. Sent the thank you notes. After the interview I wanted to learn more about the company culture as this is important to me. When I Googled “Is Dish a good company to work for” the 4th article down was “Dish Network rated as worst company to work for in America for 2nd straight year.” I read the article and I can begin to fill in the blanks as to why. The company seems very rigid. I waited the two weeks, did circled back with the HR recruiter and she replied with a templated rejection note – encouraging me to continue applying for other roles. I responded inquiring if there was a possibility with the original role that I had applied for and she never wrote me. All rejection sucks, but I’m glad I didn’t get this role. The lack of transparency in this company would not have been a match. I hope sharing my story helps someone else in their path.

They asked behavioral questions, followed by an online test a few days later, which the interviewer mentioned should be easy. However, I didn’t hear back after the test and received an automated rejection email a month later.

      Interview

After several rounds of interviews, including onsite, and many late notice calls I took while they knew I was on vacation, they told me to expect an offer. This was followed by even more calls and eventually a text message that budgets had changed and they were retracting the offer.
