      Software Engineer, Backend Interview

      May 12, 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Current (NY) in Apr 2024

      Interview

As the first step in the interview process I was sent a coding assessment that I was given a week to complete. The assessment involved designing and building an api end-to-end, including a full test suite and write-up. I spent roughly 80 hours on the assessment in total. I reached out twice to the Tech Recruiting Manager who said I should email them if I have any questions about the assessment-- the first time they responded, but the second time they never got back to my email or answered my question. Four days after submitting my project I received an automated email from a no-reply@ address saying they had moved on with another candidate. If you’re going to present such an involved coding assessment to candidates, it’s unbelievable that you wouldn’t at least offer feedback on what they have built for you. I’m shocked and extremely, extremely disappointed.

      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Current (NY) in Sep 2020

      Interview

Overall the interview process was a pretty standard one. 1. Initial HR call with the recruiter 2. Phone Round - Basic leet code medium question and 5 min chat about background 3. Onsite: a. Interview1: Peer coding session for 1 hour + 30 mins of background screening and questions asked based on resume. They use a 3rd party called Code Screen where you have to commit and push your code to a git repo once you are done implementing the solution. b. Interview 2: System Design. This was the best round. Interviewer was really good. Overall, I wish I could have received some detailed feedback from them.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Phone Interview: Rotate an image by 90 degrees clockwise, Onsite: The question I was asked was LRU Map with a variation and the variation was that you cannot use a hashmap internally and only a doubly linked list. System Design: Design log /metrics collection system.
