Painful. I had to ask a lot of questions to really understand the aspects and expectations of the role.
They were more interested in understanding my connections and who I knew at certain retailers and my experience working with them. They told me they wanted to grow their business and needed someone with my skill set and background to do so. In hind sight I wish I was more critical in asking about their actual growth strategies and the processes structure they had to support those. I think I was more flattered by their interest in me and my background verses their genuine support for the role.
I wish I would have probed more beyond their short answered questions to my inquiry about their ideas on growth and innovation. I would have better understand their lack of industry knowledge and experience.
