Question 1
Tell me about a time when you didn't get along with a team member
It was with two of the managers first. Then when you get hired you go through the probational period. You watch a video that lasts about an hour and you take tests before you start working in your posistion.
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Costco Wholesale (Salt Lake City, UT) in Nov 2020
Interview
I am an experienced baker, I saw an add for a Costco cake decorating job. I heard it was a great company, so I applied. They called me within a couple days and invited me I for an interview.
I arrived and 2 managers interviewed me. They informed me that there was no cae decorating job, only season entry level jobs were EVER offered at Costco. I said I specifically applied to work in the bakery. Then they told me I made it to the next level interview. Waited 5 minutes the another manager asked me a few vague questions about customer service. He mentioned again I wouldn’t just get a job I the bakery, everyone starts at entry level 15$ an hour. I would be expected to gather carts in the snow ect. He said that all the other people being hired for seasonal would all be competing for a few permanent spots and it gets very competitive. Then he said it was time for my drug test. He gave me a form to sign. I said “a drug test is part of the interview process?”. He then told me I was hired and would be put on the schedule immediately. He acted bewildered when I said I didn’t know if I wanted the job. He said I better hurry because my spot would be gone.
I found all this very insulting, they acted like I was uppity because I wanted the job I applied for, and as a trained, schooled professional baker, I wanted proper compensation. They bait and switch to sucker people into working insane seasonal hours/conditions. I won’t be working at Costco, if they are this shady during the hiring process, then I don’t need to find out what’s next.
