      Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at Compass

      Interview

I connected with someone in the senior team in Compass, who told me to interview with the growing team in NYC. The HR contacted me, gave me an overview of the company etc and set-up time with an analyst from my potential team in Compass via Google hangout. Below is the feedback I sent Compass, when they asked me for it, after the interview. This will give an overview of how it went. 1. In person interview - I am a candidate based in New York city, the role and the rest of team is based in New York city. Doesn't take a lot to have me come to the Compass office to have an in person interview for a role, especially when the role is on the commercial/business side, which needs a huge human/EQ element. The HR round on the phone makes sense, but the 2nd interview with the person from my potential team could have been done in person. 2. Google Hangout testing before the interview - I was told that the 2nd round would be with someone from my potential compass team via Google Hangout. I have personally never used google hangout in the past, but I made sure it works on my Ipad by testing it multiple times with friends...Only to find that the Google hangout doesn't work for the person interviewing me, and we had to move to a phone interview. 3. Top-down please and not Bottom-up. After speaking with the HR, my first interview was with someone junior who was going to report into my potential role. Having interviewed at multiple other banks, financial technology firms, start-ups in New York City, this was a first for me. I have usually seen that the potential manager or someone who is at least a peer is the first round, to give the candidate a better idea of the role, the expectations, etc. 4. Do not force staff to interview people It did not seem like the interviewer wanted to speak with me at all. I understand that interviewers are busy and I appreciate the time, but I think its a two-way street. The HR had set up a 45 minute interview session. The interviewer called 5 minutes late, asked me about my background, strengths for 20 minutes. At that point I assumed I have 20 more minutes to ask questions about the role, the career progression, but after 5 minutes was told that the interviewer has a meeting and has to leave.
