      Full Stack Engineer Interview

      Sep 16, 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Collective Health (Chicago, IL) in Sep 2018

      Interview

The process with Collective Health started out strong, and it went downhill over time. The initial recruiter was excellent, maybe the best I've spoken to. He spent two hours talking with me about the industry, his company, the position, the outlook for the Chicago location, and my background. We set up the next step, a phone screen with the hiring manager in Chicago. He seemed nice and competent, but he came across as disinterested in speaking with me. Still, we proceeded with a typical introductory phone screen and talked about our respective backgrounds. Next step was the programming test. The test was administered through codility, and it was extremely simple -- the kind you would give a child. The problems were academic, and not specific to either of the positions I was ostensibly a fit for. This put me off, but I completed it such that the test cases passed. I am biased, but I felt my solutions were perfectly adequate. Two days later, a one-liner rejection from the recruiter, mentioning my resume and the test. No other details given as to how the fit was poor. So, was it really something in the resume that they had from the start? Or the 5-line programming test? Or something else? Please, if you know the fit is poor, don't proceed with these chores. Just be honest as soon as possible.
