      Software Engineer Interview

      Feb 3, 2023
      Anonymous employee
      Edinburgh, Scotland
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Codeplay Software (Edinburgh, Scotland) in Sep 2019

      Interview

Initial call for setting up the interviews by HR, and gather basic information about myself. I got 2 interviews, the first revolved around my experience and past work, the second was testing in C++. Then I had another contact by HR about salary expectations. Last call with HR was told I will receive an offer and could negotiate the salary a little bit. Company was quite inflexible in the salary.

      Anonymous employee
      Edinburgh, Scotland
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Codeplay Software (Edinburgh, Scotland) in Mar 2019

      Interview

The 3 stage hiring process started with an initial Skype interview consisting of a conversation about my personal projects and interests, followed by a few C++ technical and code review questions. The second stage was a face to face interview with two employees, both were very friendly and welcoming. We started by discussing my CV and personal projects, then I was asked several technical questions and asked about approaches to implementing algorithms, which I could explain, or draw out on a whiteboard. Both interviewers were open to bouncing ideas off them and overall it was a relaxed atmosphere. The final stage was more focused on discussing the specific knowledge required to be placed in a specific team, again a relaxed atmosphere.

      Software Engineer Interview

      Feb 18, 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Edinburgh, Scotland
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Codeplay Software (Edinburgh, Scotland)

      Interview

The whole interview process was through Skype. There were 2 senior software engineers. Most of the questions were technical about C++ and parallel processing with Cuda, some theory about parallel processing. There was also a platform that they could send me some code and correct it. At the start, all went well but gradually the questions were too difficult, beyond the intern's level. Furthermore, there were not any personality, ability or soft skills questions. They did 't know anything about the Erasmus programme (they asked me what it is). In the end, they asked me if I had any questions. My questions were about the company and some others that I didn't 't get to ask because the rudely interrupted me saying the time was up. Things that gone wrong: My nervousness: It was difficult for me to think clearly. My age: When they saw me, they both "froze", as I am a mature student (much older than them) and it was then when I realized that the whole process was meant to fail. My lack of experience in this type of interviews: It was my 1st interview in English for a software engineering position, very different of the ones I was used to.
