I reached out to a loose connection in the company who quickly forwarded my resume to the recruiter and hiring manager.
The next day, I spoke with the recruiter who was kind, efficient, and answered my questions regarding the role to the best of their ability. This interview focused mostly on qualifying me as a candidate. The recruiter set up a virtual meeting the with the hiring manager the following business day.
The next day, I spoke with the hiring manager who reviewed my resume for the 1st time as we were on the phone. They dismissed my 20+ years of experience in Product, Retail, and Consulting, saying that "[I couldn't have learned anything as I hadn't held one title for 5 years]". The interviewer proceded to ask questions related to consumer insights. I shared several examples, but the interviewer talked down to me and insinuated I didn't know what an insight was (I leverage research, insights, and analytics in virtually every project). I asked the interviewer about the goals for the business and questions positioning vs the competitive set given trends in the space. I was not able to get any answers or break through the tough exterior. In the end, I explained I was not a fit for the role. I was promptly retorted by the interviewer, "[I'm a very busy person and that was 40 minutes I will not ever get back.]"
