      Web Developer Interview

      Jan 7, 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Denver, CO
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Bounteous (Denver, CO)

      Interview

I first met with a recruiter who was really friendly and professional. This was more of a informative interview where he learned more about my skills. After that I completed a relatively easy technical assessment (build out a component using Javascript, CSS and HTML). My final interview was with lead developer on the team I would be working on. This is when things got WEIRD. The man I was interviewing with literally read the job description to me, all while complaining about the client I would be working with. After 30 minutes of that, he asked me to go to my portfolio and explain how I put it together. It was a very simple portfolio site, that had absolutely nothing to do with the position, so I asked him if he could clarify what he was looking for. He told me not to worry about it, asked if I had any questions and then ended the call. So I spent 45 minutes on the phone with a guy who essentially told me why I wouldn't want the position and asked me one question, and then told me not to worry about it. It was by far the strangest interview I've ever had and really felt like the man interviewing me had no intention of hiring me from the start. I can't help but feel that if I was a man, this wouldn't have happened. Then the recruiter, who up until then had been very responsive, was quiet for two weeks. After two weeks, I emailed to follow up and was told they had moved forward with another candidate. So, even after going through three rounds of interviewing, they weren't even going to let me know. I then followed up with the recruiter and asked if I could have a few minutes of his time but never responded. I intended to share this same feedback with him, but the company clearly isn't interested in that.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We always look for ways to improve upon the interview process and that includes communication with candidates. Despite our best efforts in getting back to those who have taken the time to interview with us, we don't always get it right. We apologize this was your experience and very much appreciate you providing this feedback.

      Interview

Contacted by recruiter and then a phone screen with the recruiter. Issued a coding challenge and then a technical interview to review the challenge. Three interviews with various members of the department you will be working in, including the department head in my case.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Bounteous (Detroit, MI) in May 2017

      Interview

The processes started with an in-house talent recruiter. There were 4 interviews total. 2 very competent developers, one senior manager via video conference, and a dinner meeting with one senior management and another competent developer. The process is very long, yet thorough, which was appreciated. I was provided plenty of time to ask questions regarding the company, it's direction, culture, and the work. It was not a 100% smooth process, but overall it was a good experience.
