      Senior Android Developer Interview

      Oct 3, 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Saint Petersburg, Sankt-Peterburg
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Bolt (Saint Petersburg, Sankt-Peterburg) in Aug 2019

      Interview

The interview process was quite long, with several technical interviews and an initial phone screen. During the last technical interview I was asked to implement some functionality on base of an existing skeleton of an application and to show my coding and architectural skills. I did all that in time that was allowed to me by an interviewer. The task was done in what I believe to be a great quality, but I later received a negative answer and absolutely no feedback. I have asked for feedback additionally, but never received it.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Standard questions about Android platform, Java, Kotlin, software development process and my experience.
      Answer question

      Question 2

I was asked to implement a request to an existing REST API and to show dots on a map. The task was simple, but I was asked to do it in high quality of code and to provide a great architecture.

      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I interviewed at Bolt (Tallinn) in Sep 2024

      Interview

The process took three weeks. First Interview (1 Hour) – A general discussion about my experience, along with very simple technical questions related to data structures and Kotlin. Android Engineer Interview – A deep discussion covering various Android topics, tools, and APIs. It was a nice conversation and of average difficulty. System Design Interview – A live coding session where they provided a project, asked me to fix issues, and implement some features. It was slightly stressful but still manageable. Problem-Solving Interview – A medium-level problem from LeetCode. Afterward, they informed me that I didn’t pass due to my performance in the problem-solving interview. I was extremely frustrated—if this was the most important part, they could have assessed it first and saved both my time and the interviewers' time.
