I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Black Mountain Systems (New York, NY)
Interview
1. Phone Screen to go over resume and background
2. Networking / open house session with other candidates
3. SQL Test - short easy questions of writing some basic queries
4. Onsite: SQL Test (company takes SQL very seriously - found this funny), Finance Test (not really a finance test - if you can read english and graduated high school, there is no way to get this wrong), Panel interview (casually sit at a table with multiple people and talk about resume and other random things)
5. Final informal happy hour with other candidates and full-time employees and managers where they ask you informal random questions to see if they like you. Regardless of how well you did on all previous technical aspects, if they don't like you, you're out.
Pro: Generally friendly, casual, informal people. There is a kitchen and a fridge with drinks. (Not sure if you are welcome to just take them when you want. This is not like a casual tech company environment. Just one very small floor with kitchen at the end.) Easy to talk to managers casually. No other particular perk you wouldn't find anywhere else.
Con: Unprofessional. Profane language, discussion on personal, political, random questions. If you are seeking a technical role, there is no software development here. Just SQL and business analyst-like things. Got the impression that work will be dull and repetitive. Not sure where you would use what you learn here anywhere else.
Very cautious and selective on new hires - makes sense because they're small. But when you're small and want to be selective, you also need to be professional. Employees are expected to work diligently, but seemed like managers just have fun fooling around.
**No competitive salary
I applied through university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Black Mountain Systems (New York, NY) in Sep 2019
Interview
very long process it took almost 2 months, first was a group interview, after was a SQL test, 3rd was in person 1:1 interview and after if you got the offer or not
Recruited me from a college recruiting event and then invited me to attend an open house at their company. Afterwards they invited me to take an online SQL test which was a little hard.
I applied through university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Black Mountain Systems (New York, NY) in Oct 2018
Interview
Initial Phone Screen to just talk about your experience. Then took an online SQL test; if you took a Databases class or have some basic SQL experience, the test was very do-able. Did well on that and then went to an onsite interview. Consisted of a finance test, sql test, panel interview and happy hour. Finance test was definitely do-able, SQL test was also do-able but it is definitely more difficult than the online exam. I definitely felt that if I prepped more, I would have done well but it resulted in me doing very average. Overall, the interview process was definitely fair and the people were absolutely awesome.
