About a month after applying I received a request for an on-site interview with the hiring manager. I'm an out of state candidate and flew down for the interview. After we start the interview, it becomes obvious the hiring manager had hardly read my resume, if at all, because she wasn't aware I was from out of state. The rest of the interview went well and I thought I was in good shape thinking I may have gotten the job. 2 weeks after the initial interview after no contact from HR, I reached out and they told me that I was a finalist and would be contacted for a final interview. I wasn't told there would be a final interview, but that was partly my fault for not asking next steps during the initial interview. 2 weeks later and after no response, I reached out again and HR told me they simply forgot to schedule my final interview. I flew down once again for a final meeting with the director who could not have been more uninterested in conducting the interview. He very nearly showed up late, checked his phone that was ringing during one of my answers, and was clicking around on the computer. He also hadn't read my resume because he too realized I was from out of state and then told me, "I didn't know you were out of state we could've set up a phone call." This caused me to stumble over some answers and made me more nervous than I should have been. In the end I didn't receive an offer, but between HR being abysmal and the director being very rude and showing no interest in me (he didn't even shake my hand), I'm fine with not receiving an offer.
